Privacy
What we collect, why, and your control over it.
Who is responsible
Glanmor is an independent, community-run project and the data controller for the information described here. We keep data to a minimum and don't sell it. Questions or requests: contact us.
What we collect
- Pollution reports: location, time, what you saw, optional photo, and whether you chose to make it public.
- Illness reports: swim location & time, symptom onset time, and symptoms (e.g. vomiting, diarrhoea, ear/eye infection). Symptoms are health data — a special category under UK GDPR.
- Alert subscriptions: your email address and chosen beach.
- Basic technical logs needed to run the service securely.
Lawful basis & consent
We process health-related illness data only with your explicit consent, which you give by ticking the consent box on the report form. We do not rely on any other special-category condition for this. Making a report public is a separate, optional consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by asking us to delete your report.
Retention & deletion
Reports are kept for up to 7 years — chosen to align with typical evidence and limitation periods for personal-injury claims — after which they are deleted or anonymised. When you submit a private report you receive a return link/token; keep it to view your report. To delete a report or request erasure, contact us with your report ID.
Sharing & cookies
We don't sell your data. Public reports (only those you mark public) appear on the map with approximate detail. We use a single essential session cookie for login only — no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Map tiles, fonts and chart libraries load from third parties (OpenStreetMap, Google Fonts, jsDelivr, unpkg), which may see your IP.
